How to Lower Energy Costs Without Investing Money
17 Ideas to Help You Lower Your Energy Cost and Become Environmentally Friendly

4. Use air conditioning only if necessary. Schedule it to work for just a few hours while you're away from home.
5. Close your windows and doors when you turn on the air conditioning or the boiler. Many degrees are lost when the air in the house comes in contact with the air outside.
6. Always have a full refrigerator. It is strange to hear this, but every time the refrigerator is opened, it loses its temperature, implicitly its energy. If you have more food in the fridge, if you open the fridge, less air will enter, which means that the fridge will work less.
7. If you have a lot of flowers, try to get a rainwater storage system to water your flowers. Rainwater is better for flowers and you save money by doing so.
8. Replace your old shower head with large holes with a new one with small holes. The shower head with large holes does not have the right pressure and you end up losing water unnecessarily.
9. Cover your pan or pot when cooking to allow the steam from spreading. This will save energy, make you healthier and cook faster.
10. If you use a dishwasher, remove pre-wash dishes with tap water before putting them in the machine. Remove only food scraps and start washing them without having to wash them beforehand.
11. Wash dishes immediately after use. Do not allow dirt to settle because you will have to use more water than if you washed them immediately.
12. Use a thermostat with programming at your heat boiler. Make sure that your boiler will only give you heat at pre-set temperature when you are at home.
13. Reduce your time in the shower. According to a study of a family of 4, each takes about 5 showers of 15 minutes per week. If you reduce your time by 5 minutes, you will save a significant amount of water and gas.
14. In summer, when the heat is very high, you can try to take showers with colder water. They are healthier for the body, they will relax you and they will help you to reduce the cost of water heating.
15. Why always stay at 22-23 (71.6 F) degrees in the house? Dress yourself a little thicker and lower the temperature on the thermostat. It helps a lot in the winter not to have a bill that is hard for you to pay.
16. Turn off the water when brushing your teeth. You can save water or hot water when you apply this measure to all members of the household.
17. If you have a large house with several rooms, do not heat all of them in the winter, especially if you do not use some of them. You can make significant savings on heat by lowering the temperature to 13 C (55.4 F) degrees in rooms you don't use.
At first glance, all these ideas do not seem to make a "big energy saving", but if you combine them all and apply them in your home, you will get a 30% energy saving.
